Legend says that Saint Barbara was the beautiful daughter of a wealthy nobleman named Dioscorus, who had her shut up in a town to discourage the attention of her numerous suitors. Upon discovering that she had become a Christian, he attempted to have her killed, but she was miraculously transported out of his reach. Then he denounced her to the authorities who submitted her to torture. When she refused to renounce Jesus her father was ordered to kill her.

This he did by hitting her with a sword. All at once a bolt of lightning fell from heaven and stuck him, turning him to ashes. This is the source of Saint Barbaras power over thunder and lightning. The patron saint of gunners, miners, and fireman. Her special symbol is a tower. The many miracles of Saint Barbara are celebrated on each year on her feast day of December 4th.

Saints are spiritual beings who have been tasked with maintaining this Earth, watching over the affairs of humanity and each has dominion over a portion of nature.
